50th Anniversary RIKI Walkathon raises over $30,000 for Camp Easter Seal!

People came by the bus-load to the 50th Anniversary RIKI Walkathon on June 9! Over 100 walkers, pledge raisers, volunteers and supporters gathered at Pike Lake Provincial Park for the big celebration – and boy, what a day it was! The sun was shining, the birds were chirping and people were having a great time reminiscing about past RIKI Walkathons and the impact their support has had in the lives of individuals with disabilities. So far, the funds raised from Saturday have toppled over $30,000! And support is still rolling in!

For 50 years, we’ve walked in support of individuals experiencing disability. On June 9, we honoured all of the dedication, hard work and generosity that has gone into the RIKI Walkathon over those years. A heartfelt thank you to each and every person who joined us for the walk, offered a helping hand, pledged to the cause, sponsored goods and services, and even those who just followed along in our journey to the 50th. Your support means the world to us and the individuals who get to experience Camp Easter Seal! THANK YOU!

In 1968, the Kiwanis Club of Riversdale pioneered the RIKI Walkathon as a fundraising initiative to build a new cabin at Camp Easter Seal. At that time, the cabins were a little dated and in need of repair. So being the community-mind club they are, they set out with the fundraising goal of building one cabin at Camp Easter Seal. And the RIKI Walkathon was born!

To everyone’s surprise and amazement, over 4,000 people showed up at that first RIKI Walkathon to trek 22 miles from Saskatoon to Pike Lake! The first walk raised over $41,000 – enough to build not one, but FIVE cabins at Camp Easter Seal!

Since 1968, the Kiwanis Club of Riversdale has raised over $1 million in support of SaskAbilities and Camp Easter Seal through the RIKI Walkathon. Over the years, the money raised has purchased accessible buses and equipment, built and maintained cabins, and covered camp fees so children and adults with disabilities could attend. Thank you so much to Kiwanis Club of Riversdale for all of their support over the past 50 years!

An event of this magnitude would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to:
