December 2nd Proclaimed as SaskAbilities Day in Saskatchewan

SaskAbilities is honoured to announce that December 2, 2025, has been officially proclaimed SaskAbilities Day by the Government of Saskatchewan. This recognition commemorates 75 years of service to people experiencing disability and acknowledges SaskAbilities’ leadership in building inclusive communities across the province.

The proclamation of SaskAbilities Day reflects a shared commitment to advancing inclusion, accessibility, and meaningful opportunity for people of all abilities.

In 1950, families came together with a heartfelt hope: a better life for their children. That hope took shape on December 2 of that year, when their efforts led to the founding of SaskAbilities. Over the decades, SaskAbilities has grown into a province-wide organization that now supports more than 50,000 individuals annually through a wide range of programs and services that promote inclusion, community participation, and quality of life.

“It feels especially important today to once again acknowledge and thank the founding families for creating the foundation to which SaskAbilities has been able to grow and build upon. It is because of their shared vision of better education, treatment, and service for their loved ones that SaskAbilities exists today,” said Paul Blackstock, President of SaskAbilities.

For 75 years, SaskAbilities has remained dedicated to its vision, mission, and values – offering client-centred programs and services that respond to the unique needs of individuals across Saskatchewan’s diverse communities. Guided by the values of respect, compassion, honesty, teamwork, excellence, and innovation, SaskAbilities continues working to remove barriers and foster environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

This milestone is not only a celebration of the past but a reflection of the future. As SaskAbilities looks ahead, it remains focused on strengthening partnerships, enhancing services, and ensuring people experiencing disability are supported at every stage of life.
Thank you to the many individuals SaskAbilities serves, along with families, staff members, volunteers, donors, and community supporters. Your commitment makes this work possible. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive Saskatchewan – today and for generations to come.
