The podcast debuts with Episode 1: Reflections and Real Impact: 75 Years and a Conference to Remember. This opening episode highlights SaskAbilities’ 75th anniversary – a milestone year of reflection, gratitude, and celebration – and the ideas and energy that emerged from the recent Shaping Inclusive Communities conference.

Hosted by Aleks Hoeber, Regional Director, Yorkton Branch, the conversation features special guests Ian Wilkinson, Executive Director; Emily Hurd, Regional Director, Saskatoon Branch and Chair of the 75th Anniversary Committee; and Jessica MacPherson, Regional Director, Regina Branch and Co-Chair of the 7th Anniversary Committee. Together, they reflect on the organization’s origins, its evolution, and the many community-based celebrations that marked the 75th year.

“This podcast is an extension of what we experienced at the conference,” says Jessica MacPherson. “There was so much energy, so many thoughtful questions from attendees, and a real desire to keep the conversation going – and this podcast gives us that space.”

The idea for the podcast grew out of the success of the Shaping Inclusive Communities conference held earlier this year which brought together individuals with lived experience, service providers, families, and community partners for two days of dialogue, learning, and inspiration. With over 200 questions submitted by attendees, the SaskAbilities team saw a clear opportunity to continue those conversations in a more accessible, ongoing way.

The Shaping Inclusive Communities podcast will feature a range of voices including individuals experiencing disability, program leaders, and professionals committed to advancing inclusion. Future episodes will explore topics that matter to the SaskAbilities community, such as adaptive technology, recreation, employment, and accessibility.

“We’re not just sharing stories,” says Executive Director Ian Wilkinson. “We’re continuing the work of building connection, trust, and understanding, one conversation at a time.”

This new communication platform reflects SaskAbilities’ mission to connect individuals experiencing disability with programs and services that enhance their quality of life. It also reinforces the organization’s vision of building inclusive communities, where everyone belongs and has the opportunity to thrive.
